SAYING THINGS from CIPA COLLEGE Workshop
(Colorado Independent Publishers Association) last weekend. We had a enthusiastic crowd of writers who spend extra college time creating with their pens. The writer's first and always step!
Here is a poem that one writer created. The opening line was "Say..." Brenda Speer captured an invitation to writing.
What would you like to say? Write for 10 minutes and email your work to AnneRandolph@comcast.net for a prize. www.KitchenTableWriting.com
Say
Say, say, oh playmate!
Come out and play with me!
My pens!
My favorites—Uni-balls® with flowing ink.
A riot of colors to choose from.
Always colors.
Black is no fun. Too serious.
I like the loud, brash colors with something to say.
Fuchsia
Orange
Lime green
And my paper!
Come out and play with me!
Set the ink free.
Free to glide across glossy pages.
Free to seep through rough, homemade, pressed paper with lumps to jump over along the way.
And paper with lines
for guidance,
to be the tow ropes for my words.
Pulling them along,
Taking my thoughts new places.
And someday soon my friends—my papers and pens—we’ll be a book.
We’ll be words, stories.
Stories to take people to places they’ve never been,
to new thoughts.
Oh! My papers and pens!
You are my friends!
